These photographs depict moments from the Prince's public and private life, captured by himself or by his official photographer, during the first months of his mandate in Crete. They reveal the role played by the High Commissioner after the end of Ottoman rule and illustrate the physiognomy of the island and its inhabitants, in a transitional period preceding the annexation of Crete to Greece.
